Designed by Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux, Central Park has had a significant impact on the development of urban parks across the country and is celebrated as a masterpiece of landscape architecture. It was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1963 and recognized as a Scenic Landscape of the City of New York in 1974. Central Park is an urban park between the Upper West Side and Upper East Side neighborhoods of Manhattan in New York City that was the first landscaped park in the United States.
