Amelia Island is part of the Sea Islands chain of barrier islands along Florida's Atlantic coast. Its history includes Spanish, French, British, and American rule. Today, it is a popular vacation spot known for its luxury resorts, golf courses, and sandy beaches. Main Beach Park features sand dunes, a boardwalk, and public sports and recreation facilities. n the 1896 edition of American Resorts magazine, Amelia Island was dubbed “The Queen of Summer Resorts” due to its popularity among vacationers such as the Vanderbilts, Carnegies, DuPonts, and other prominent U.S. families. Additionally, there is a sunken U.S. Coast Guard ship off the coast of Amelia Island.
